About

Christophe Porot writing, black and white

i.Today

My days are dedicated to creativity.

Flaubert said one must be boring and routine in life to be wild and original in their work. This is exactly how I live, embracing an organized life that allows me to unleash the wilderness in my work.

Since I started working with Christophe at the University of Oxford I recognised his exceptional capacity for critical thought and analysis. Christophe certainly stands out as an original thinker, not only for his intellectual skills and his capacity for adapting enthusiastically to changes, but also for his relentless motivation.

ii.The coach

I coach like a servant in the court of a King or Queen.

Philosophy coaching falls somewhere within the domain of music, art, and poetry in the sense that it may be therapeutic to engage with even though it is not therapy. I paint pictures of your thoughts by listening carefully and with precision to the answers you give to the philosophical questions I pose, all of which are based on and guided by whatever need you may have.

If you are stuck, I offer philosophical options and encourage you to use your intuition to track which option rings true to you. This process enables people to see their own thoughts more clearly, as though I was a painter composing a portrait of your mind for you.

iii.I know the darkness

I know the darkness.

The philosopher and psychologist William James said some people are born with a “bottle of champagne in their pocket.” By this he meant some people simply are born into joy and never know the struggle others go through to find their freedom and delight in life. I am not one of those people. After a series of difficult passages in life, which I write about in my book, I spent years in a very dark place. I carved a new life out of a shattered existence.

So if you are struggling in life, and want to talk to me, the first message I have for you is that you are not alone and will not find a fool in me. I am not ignorant to how difficult tolerating existence can be, and yet I know there are paths to freedom even if they seem implausible. The philosopher Ibn Sina said “the power of your thoughts can cause you either illness or recovery.” I know both sides of that equation and I have been healed by better thoughts, more love, and a commitment to following the right path.

I was lucky enough to be coached by Mr Christophe Porot from January to June 2023. During our sessions Mr. Porot worked with me on the blocks I was facing (making some hard but necessary decisions, or accepting things about which the more I struggled internally, the deeper I sank). His highly effective method consisted in helping me to reformulate my questions or intuitions by adding multiple response options according to different philosophical schools, inviting me to choose the one that corresponded to my values, or helping me to formulate my own answers. And so, little by little, from question to answer, the philosophical path unfolded beneath our feet.

But above all, Mr. Porot didn't try to convince me of any his opinion: he helped me discover my own truth, and gave me the tools to be able to say and act according to my own value system, precisely by moving it from intuition to system.

Thanks to his ability to listen and his mental mobility, Mr. Porot is a gas pedal of inner transformation. I'd like to add that there's no wrong answer with him; at worst, if I was going down the wrong path, I felt I'd realized it and corrected myself. At best, even if he supported me in my progress, I had the impression that I was making discoveries on my own, which I wouldn't have made without his subtle work based on questioning and dialogue.

It helped defeat my self-hate, give me the self-confidence I was lacking and revealed my strength as much as my inner peace. I'm very grateful and the benefits of his coaching are still very much alive.
