i.Hello

Hello! I’m Christophe, a philosopher, a poet, and a coach.

I’ve worked with a wide range of people throughout my career. I’ve been a managing editor for Wiley Blackwell’s series on Analytic Philosophy of Religion. I’ve worked with people dying of cancer to explore their philosophical curiosity about death, which was not related to merely being worried about the event but being curious about it and its philosophical content (I’ve previously published on the subject of Death in the journal Death and Anti-Death).

I’ve worked with Akhil Gupta (former partner at Blackstone) to help his project to enable others to flourish, and I’ve coached Charles Taliaferro (Philosopher) to help bring new angles to his latest book. I’ve worked with married couples to explore the values which shape their relationship, and I’ve worked with co-authors to publish pieces in academic journals and public philosophy books ranging from Pokemon and Philosophy (Carus Books) to an analytic defense of Theism (The European Journal for Philosophy of Religion).

Christophe has developed an original and inspirational concept to allow adventurous discussions on philosophical matters amongst scholars, aficionados and novices. Through the construct of coaching, he is able to weave our personal perspective with deep philosophical and even divine principles, creating a challenging, nourishing and invigorating experience. He is able to cite references, discuss historical impact, and provide surprising context to an idea. One emerges with a fresh outlook and a more considerate process of thought. An extraordinary forum!

ii.A light in the darkness

Let me be a light in the darkness.

We all have a hierarchy of values without which it is impossible to choose between multiple options in our path of life. However, very few people spend time encountering their hierarchy of values or asking why they value some things more than others. The process of using philosophy to shine a light on those values and their justifications can be, simply put, liberating. I seek to liberate people from false considerations about what they care about or why they care about what they care about.

In this sense, when I coach people I always commit myself to their world view without imposing my own. No one can tell you the reason to live, but a skilled philosopher can enable you to explore the ideas guiding you. Sometimes folks find they have gone astray from their deepest commitments and exposing them to this enables them to choose whether to live in harmony with their own personal ethics, to set the law for themselves, or to adjust their values to harmonize with their current path. That’s what I mean by being a light in the darkness: I explore with you the hidden thoughts which, when brought to the light, can be reviewed by you.

“Like Simone de Beauvoir, I believe freedom is a more relevant concern than happiness. I work to maximize that freedom for myself and others.”

“Going over the different themes and arguments was like coming upon a well of fresh water.”

Coach Christophe is a genius. I have published many books, but the one I am working on now is the most important to me personally. Because of that, I treated myself to four sessions with Christophe and he did not disappoint. Going over the different themes and arguments was like coming upon a well of fresh water. I am citing him in the Acknowledgements with great gratitude!

In his own words

“Philosophy is the slow liberation.”

iii.How to understand me

Christophe Porot beside a stained-glass window

The simplest way to understand me is to grasp that I am a committed thinker. But there are many ways to think and explore the consequences of our thoughts. In light of that, I spend my days reading, writing (articles, poems, a book, and academic papers), philosophy coaching, consulting, podcasting, and generally exploring the practical implications of our abstract commitments.

This ability to develop connections between the abstract and the practical serves everyday folks, philosophers, and leaders who seek clarity of thought and new angles to explore themselves and the world they find themselves in.

Talking to Christophe is like talking to a textbook that has a heart and actually cares about you. I get the sense that he could speak to anyone from any walk of life. His philosophical coaching is for everyone, not just for people who have read the great thinkers. He will meet you where you are at, challenge you lovingly, and help you find a next step that feels authentic for you.

His language has a clarity and accuracy that can only come from doing a tremendous amount of inner work, both intellectually and spiritually. He has earned the right to be a developmental partner and guide for others on their journey.

Step into the light.
